Attempted Unauthorized Entry at Pickens Jr. High

UPDATE: On August 5, 2025, at around 2:45 PM, Campus Law Enforcement Deputy Blake McClure observed an adult male attempting to pull on doors at Pickens Jr. High School after dismissal.

Deputy McClure made contact with the individual, who then ran from the area. After a short foot chase, Deputy McClure apprehended and arrested him.

The individual was identified as Pedro Nicholas-Pedro, who had been working construction in the area of the school before being terminated from the job site earlier that day.

In a post-arrest interview, Nicholas-Pedro stated he was trying to get inside the building to use the phone to call for a ride.

Nicholas-Pedro has been charged with:

Loitering and Prowling

Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer

He was not armed at the time of the incident.

This incident serves as a reminder of why we have Deputies assigned to school campuses. Combined with advanced safety measures like surveillance cameras and automatic door locking systems, our Campus Law Enforcement Unit plays a key role in quickly identifying and addressing threats to keep our schools safe.

In accordance with OCGA 42-4-14, Federal Immigration Authorities have been notified of the arrest.

This remains an active investigation. More details will be shared as they become available.

PRESS RELEASE – Pickens County Sheriff’s Office issued the following statement about an unauthorized attempt from an individual to enter into Pickens County jr. High School.

”At around 2:45 PM on August 5, 2025, Campus Law Enforcement Deputy Blake McClure witnessed an adult male attempting to pull on doors and gain entry to Pickens Jr. High School.

Deputy McClure made contact with the individual, who then attempted to flee. After a short foot chase, the subject was taken into custody.

This incident occurred after afternoon dismissal and is still an active investigation. More information will be shared as it becomes available.

We are grateful for the swift response by Deputy McClure in helping keep our school campuses safe.”
