Nettes defeat Lady Trojans to advance to Elite 8

Jasper, Ga — The Sweet 16 was upon us as the Pickens Dragonettes, welcomed fellow 6-AAA region mate, the North Hall Lady Trojans, to the Dragons Den on Friday, February 27th. These two teams split during the regular season. They did not meet in the region tournament. The Nettes, defeated Upson-Lee to advance to this point. The Lady Trojans, upset Troup County to move on to the Sweet 16. The Nettes, held off a second half rally by the Lady Trojans, to pick up a 49-40 win advance to the Elite 8.

 

Lauren Hemmer, would get things going for the Lady Trojans with a layup to make it 2-0. Darbi Stanley, would make a nice move to get to the basket for a layup to tie the game. Stanley, would then hit a three to put the Nettes up, 5-2. After a pair of free throws by Ellison Steinhauer, Steinhauer and Reagan Ludington, would make back to back buckets to make it 11-2.

A 5-0 run by the Lady Trojans, would cut the lead to 11-7. The Nettes, would end the first quarter on a 7-0 run as Steinhauer, would make a jumper and a pair of free throws. Tania Rivera, would hit a three to make it 18-7 heading to the second quarter.

 

The Nettes, would carry over that run to start the second quarter as Rivera would hit a three and then split a pair of free throws. A bucket by the Lady Trojans, would end the run and make it 22-9. After Steinhauer split a pair of free throws, the Lady Trojans, would get another basket to make it 23-11. Steinhauer, would then go on a 6-0 run to stretch the lead out to 29-11. A late bucket by Tallulah Ball, would make it 29-13 Nettes heading into halftime.

 

The third quarter, began with Steinhauer getting a basket to go and hitting a pair of free throws to make it 33-13. An 8-0 run by the Lady Trojans, would cut the lead down to 33-21. Steinhauer, would calm things down for the moment with a jumper to make it 35-21. After the Lady Trojans split a pair of free throws and got a layup by Ball, Stanley, would get a floater to go to make it 37-24.

A 6-0 run by the Lady Trojans, would close out the third quarter to trim the Nettes lead down to 37-30 heading to the fourth quarter.

 

Steinahuer and Rivera, would open the fourth quarter with a combined 5-0 run to make it 42-30. The Lady Trojans, would counter with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 42-37. After a pair of free throws by Steinahuer, the Lady Trojans, would cut the lead down to four with a three. Steinhauer, would come up big for the Nettes as she would hit five more free throws down the stretch to seal a 49-40 win for the Nettes.

The Nettes, will be on the road for the Elite 8 as they will take on the Jenkins Lady Warriors for the second straight year. Time and date TBA.
