JASPER, Ga. — Someone in Jasper may have taken the phrase “breaking and entering” a little too literally this week.
A vehicle crashed into the front of the Jasper Police Department building Thursday evening, leaving behind a sizable hole in the front of the department and some unexpected remodeling work for city crews.
The incident caused enough damage that the police department announced its front office would be closed Friday, March 13, while officials assess the situation and begin repairs.
Despite the unusual entrance, police services are still operating. Anyone needing non-emergency assistance is asked to call 706-692-6110.
Officials with the City of Jasper, Georgia and the Jasper Fire Department responded after the crash to help secure the scene.
Authorities have not yet released additional details about the crash, including how the vehicle ended up inside the building or whether anyone was injured.
For now, the Jasper Police Department will be working around the damage — and perhaps considering a “no drive-through” sign for the front of the building.
