Student Charged After Threat at Pickens Junior High School

PICKENS COUNTY, Ga. – A student at Pickens Junior High School has been charged following a reported threat involving explosives, according to school officials.

The incident occurred on March 18, 2026, when a male student allegedly told others he intended to bring pipe bombs to the school and detonate them. Fellow students who overheard the statement reported it immediately to a teacher.

School administrators and campus law enforcement responded quickly, taking the student into custody and conducting a thorough search. Authorities said no weapons or explosive devices were found.

The student has been charged with making террористic threats and was transported to a youth detention center.

Officials emphasized that the school remains safe and credited students and staff for their swift actions in reporting and responding to the situation.

In a statement to parents, school leaders noted that heightened awareness following recent incidents in the region may contribute to increased concern, but stressed the importance of treating all threats seriously. They urged families to speak with their children about the consequences of making such statements, noting they can result in arrest and detention.

School officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining a safe environment and encouraged the community to continue following the principle: “See something, say something.”
