Nettes open new era in style

Jasper, Ga — A new era for Nettes sports has begun. The Pickens Dragonettes flag football team has officially opened up their first season as a team. On Wednesday, September 16th, the Nettes traveled to Collins Hill High School to take on both Collins Hill and Berkmar High School. The Nettes, would come away with a 19-8 win over Collins Hill, and a 6-0 win over Berkmar. On Monday, September 21st, the Nettes, hosted the Gilmer Lady Cats in their first ever home game. The JV Nettes, would pick up a 13-0 win, while the varsity Nettes would come away with a 24-0 win.

 

The Lady Cats, would start off with the ball first to begin the game. The Nettes, would get on the board early as Skyler Lathem, would pick off a pass attempt and take it all the way for the score. The conversion attempt was no good and the Nettes would hold a 6-0 lead. Heading to the second quarter, the score remained the same with the Nettes out front, 6-0.

 

The Nettes defense, would play very well in this one limiting the Lady Cats offense to minimal gains throughout the game. Offensively, the Nettes would find a groove in the second quarter as Lathem would connect on touchdown passes to Edy Wyngaard, as well as Elin Porio, who helped lead the JV to a win earlier in the evening. Heading into the half, the Nettes were ahead, 18-0.

 

Neither team could get anything going in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Lathem and Wyngaard would connect again for a long touchdown to put the Nettes up 24-0. That would end up being the final score as the Nettes improved to 3-0 on the season as they picked up a 24-0 win in their first ever home game.

 

The JV Nettes, will be back in action on Wednesday, September 23rd as they host the Fannin Lady Rebels at 5:30 pm and the Dawson Lady Tigers at 7:30 pm. They will then be on the road on Monday, September 28th as they take on Johnson High School at 5 pm and Cherokee Bluff at 6 pm. They will then head to Creekview on Wednesday, September 30th to take on the Lady Grizzlies at 5:30 pm.

The next time the varsity Nettes take the field will be on September 30th as they will also be at Creekview High School to take on the Lady Grizzlies at 6 pm, followed by a game against Etowah High School at 7 pm.
