First Annual Cornbread Reunion

Community

Jasper, GA – The first annual Cornbread Reunion was held Saturday, August 12, by The Pickens Arts and Cultural Alliance (PACA) in downtown Jasper.

The event included artist demonstrations, raffles for $2,000 worth of art from regional artists, free rock painting, music, and cornbread hoecakes. Tasty fixings such as collard greens were served with the hoecakes to give everyone a true southern feel.

Local artists such as Billy Roper, Peter Loose, Stanley Ferguson, Heather Poole, Randy Tabias, Miz Thang, Kip Ramey, Arthur McIntyre, and Sam Granger were featured at the event presenting outstanding pieces of art from pottery bowls to metal sculptures.

In the heat of the day, those attending also had a chance to cool off by soaking the volunteers at the featured dunking booth, at the cost of a dollar a throw. Proceeds from the dunking booth and raffle tickets went to the local arts community through PACA.

The Alliance hopes to bring back the arts to Pickens County while making the Cornbread Reunion a recurring event.
