Tonight, the Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the long trip up to Ridgeland High School to take on the Lady Panthers. A win and a Heritage loss, meant a coin flip later in the evening determined if the Nettes were the third or fourth seed in next weeks region tournament. (more…)
The Pickens High School Dragons wrestling team traveled to Ridgeland High School to take part in the Area Traditional Tournament. Five wrestlers placed, with three wrestlers qualifying for the Sectionals Tournament for a chance to compete in the State Tournament. Koby Milner won the 106 weight class, and Josh Massey and John Holbert both place fourth at 170 and 195 respectively. Try Lund (220) and Elliot Gallagher (285) placed fifth and sixth respectively. The Pickens High School wrestling team faced off in Area competition with the Gilmer High School Bobcats and Ridgeland High School Panthers. While the defending state Duals and Traditional AAAA champion Bobcats bested the Dragons, 69-3, Pickens picked up a victory, pummeling and pouncing on the Panthers 66-18. (more…)
Last Friday, the Dragons hosted the Panthers of Ridgeland High School in what was the region opener for both teams. Prior to kickoff, Mr and Miss PHS for 2014-15 were crowned as Andrew Haygood and Emma Shipley-Schmitt would reign supreme. Coming into the ball game, the Dragons was reigning over opponents, scoring 43 ppg and giving up only an impressive 16.7 ppg during their 3-game winning streak. Pickens looked to continue that trend as the Dragons welcomed a Panther squad that is primarily run oriented. The Panthers pulled out the victory, 35-28.
The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) has released its official region alignments for all high school classifications starting in 2014, which features change to the Pickens Dragons’ 7-AAAA. (more…)
The Pickens Dragons made the trip to Rossville, Georgia on Friday night and promptly pulled off something that most expected the team would be unable to do, as the offense racked up 441 yards on the ground and beat the Ridgeland Panthers, last year’s AAAA state runner-up, at Bowers and Painter Field by the final score of 41-28. The Pickens Dragons overcame a slow start and took care of business at home on Friday night, scoring twenty-eight points in the second quarter in what would prove to be a 42-0 victory over the Heritage Generals to push Pickens’ record to 2-1 on the season. (more…)
