Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team hosted the Lady Knights of River Ridge out of the 6-A classification for the finale of the 2017-18 regular season. Pickens, came into this game with an overall record of 18-5, while the Lady Knights rolled in with a 17-7 record. It looked like it would be a good one, and that was the case.
The 1st quarter, was a back and forth frame as both squads traded buckets. Pickens, got the best of the opening quarter taking a 15-12 lead over River Ridge, heading to the 2nd. In the 2nd, it remained close as the ‘Nettes stretched out it’s narrow lead on the Lady Knights ever so slightly. Using an 11-8 quarter run, Pickens took a 26-20 lead into the half.
The 3rd quarter again saw Pickens add to it’s lead. A 15-11 quarter advantage for the home team gave the ‘Nettes a 41-31 lead over River Ridge heading to the 4th. In the 4th, the Lady Knights went on a massive run. They outscored Pickens, 22-12 in the final quarter of regulation, with the final two coming in the final seconds to tie the game at 53, sending this game to overtime. In the overtime period, the ‘Nettes made the most of their scoring chances, having to comeback from a small deficit, to come away with a 65-61 win.

Mykenzie Weaver: 18 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, & 1 steal
Allie Stephens: 13 points, 5 assists, & 3 rebounds
Torie Williams: 10 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, & 1 steal
Shelby Cook: 10 points, 1 assist, & 5 rebounds
Mackenzie Hampton: 7 points, 11 rebounds, 1 steal, & 1 block
Hattie Baker: 4 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, & 1 steal
Olivia Simmons: 3 points, & 1 rebound
Pickens, wraps up the regular season with a record of 19-5. They will be the #2 seed in the 6-AAAA Region Tournament being held at Southeast Whitfield. The ‘Nettes, will play the #7 seed, Southeast Whitfield Lady Raiders in the first round on Monday at 7:30 pm. Winner will advance to the 4-A State Tournament.
Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled to Dalton to take on the Southeast Whitfield Lady Raiders in their final 6-AAAA region ball game before the region tournament next week. Pickens, looked to regain momentum after a tough overtime loss to non-region opponent, Chestatee, this past Saturday.
In the 1st, the ‘Nettes got off to a quick start on both sides of the ball. Using defense to lead to offense, Pickens held a 16-3 lead over the Lady Raiders going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, it would be more of the same from the ‘Nettes as they would add to their lead. Using a 20-7 quarter run, Pickens took a 36-10 lead over Southeast Whitfield going to the break.
The 2nd unit & younger girls for Pickens got some very valuable playing time in the 2nd half of this one & they faired very well. A 14-6 quarter run for the ‘Nettes, extended their lead going to the 4th to 50-16. After closing things out in the 4th, Pickens took this one, 58-28.

The ‘Nettes, finish the region portion of their schedule at 9-3. They will be the #2 seed heading into the 6-AAAA Region Tournament at Southeast Whitfield next week. There is one more game prior to that however as Pickens will host the 17-6 River Ridge Lady Knights out of the 6-A classification on Friday. Tip off scheduled for 6 pm.
Yesterday, the PHS Girls golf team hosted the River Ridge Lady Knights golf team at Bent Tree in the final match before the 7-AAAA region tournament. While the boys team for PHS practiced for the upcoming region tournament, the girls looked to get a win before next week.
A win is indeed what the ladies of PHS Golf were able to get as they defeated the Lady Knights of River Ridge, 160-175. With the final match out of their way, the girls can now join the boys team in preparing for the upcoming region tournament.
After their practice round today, the PHS boys golf team will have their region tournament on Monday, April 18th at LaFayette, followed by the girls team, who will compete the next day at Indian Trace, on their side of the region tournament.
