Fred Lane “HUD” Parker : Obituary

Mr. Fred Lane “HUD” Parker, age 78, of Smyrna, Georgia, died Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Wellstar Tranquility Hospice in Austell, Georgia, following a period of declining health.

Born June 26, 1933 in Talladega, Alabama, he was the son of the late, Fred Monroe Parker and Lena Mae Robinson Parker. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Dorris Jacobs. Mr. Parker proudly served in the U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division, had worked as a mechanic at Lockheed-Martin for 35 years and was a sports enthusiast which included being an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan.

Survivors include, HIS WIFE OF 56 YEARS, Delores “BUG” Parker, of Smyrna, Ga.; SONS & DAUGHTERS-IN-LAW, Stan and Susan Parker, of Powder Springs, Ga.; Mike and Kim Parker, of Powder Springs, Ga.; GRANDCHILDREN, Dana and Jason Rizk, of Hiram, Ga.; Tyler Parker, of Atlanta, Ga.; and Drew Parker, of Powder Springs, Ga.; GREAT-GRANCHILDREN, Jaxon Rizk and Kason Rizk; SISTER & BROTHER-IN-LAW, Glenda and Frank Grimmett, of Jasper, Ga.; BROTHER & SISTER-IN-LAW, Ronnie and Louise Parker, of Cartersville, Ga.; Several Nieces, Nephews and Other Relatives also survive.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2011, at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Randy Weaver, Rev. Myron Chatham and Rev. Daryl Bailey will officiate with the interment to follow in Lake Forest Memorial Park with military Graveside Rites by the Pickens County Chapter # 47 DAV. Those serving as pallbearers are, Mr. Greg Duncan, Mr. Brandon Duncan, Mr. Greg Grimmett, Mr. Jeff Jacobs, Mr. Matthew Parker, Mr. Richard Kent, Mr. Ron Phillips and Mr. Bo Ingram.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1825 Barrett Lakes Blvd., Suite 280, Kennesaw, Georgia 30144.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, all day on Thursday until 10:00 p.m. and until the funeral hour on Friday.
