The Pickens Dragons had a tough time putting together any run support on Friday against the Cartersville Hurricanes, stringing together just three hits in a 7-0 loss.
The Dragons had a tough start to the game, as a great opening inning of play for both sides was quickly followed by a seven-run, six-hit, and two-home run top of the second inning of play for Cartersville that put the Hurricanes in the driver’s seat for the remaining five innings of play. Pickens had several different chances to close the gap, including an impressive triple by center fielder Dylan Childers, but it wasn’t enough to avoid being shut out.
Cody Trego led the Dragons in hits in the loss, as he went 2-3 in the game. Another good effort was put forward by pitcher Sean Stargel, who came in relief of starter Taylor Logan and allowed just two hits with seven strikeouts.
The baseball season is now over for the Dragons, who beat Southeast Whitfield 10-2 to finish the year with a 9-16 record. The team’s banquet will be held on Tuesday, May 8th at 7:00 in Jasper at the Chamber of Commerce.
