Spring is on the horizon and so is Burnt Mountain Trading Company’s (BMTC) Fourth Annual Birdhouse and Yard Art Contest to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia. This year’s theme is “Great Futures Start Here”, which is not a coincidence that this is also the theme for the Boys & Girls Clubs. Because building a birdhouse is creating a future for our feathered friends and at the same time, helping create a great future for the youth of Pickens and Gilmer Counties. If you are not familiar with the event, it is a 2-part event. The first part is a contest where everyone can submit as many birdhouses or yard art creations as they like as part of an art contest. There is prize money ($100) for each of the 3 categories one can submit their works: functional bird house, non-functional bird house, and yard art. Plus $150 for best in show. The criteria is fairly minimal: the item must be no smaller than 10 inches by 10 inches and it must be created by you. Now, this doesn’t mean you have to be a master carpenter or welder to build your creation. You can re-purpose or buy something, and then paint, embellish, etc, to make it your own. Once all the items are submitted, they will be on display at BMTC-Jasper, from April 7th through April 20th. April 20th is part 2 of the event: preview party, dinner, and auction. Jeff Dobson and Associates will be auctioning off all the wondrous creations submitted. All monies raised from the auction will go directly to the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Georgia. Dinner will be served, and gracious donations from Fatz Café, Bojangles, Stellar Contracting and Century Fire Protection will make this year’s dinner a meal!
The application deadline is March 23rd to any of the BMTC locations. All creations are to be submitted at BMTC Jasper or Ellijay, April 3rd-6th. The application is included with this article or you can pick up from any Burnt Mountain Trading Company or The UPS Store of Jasper, who graciously printed all the applications and tickets for the event. Also, thanks to Jasper Drugs and Gifts for printing all the posters for this wonderful event! We hope you can participate and/or attend this much heralded event, which typically is ranked as one of the events not to be missed in Jasper. Truly, GREAT FUTURES START HERE!
