Jasper Postpones Two Water Projects

Jasper City Council decided to postpone two water line projects last night in order to purchase boring equipment. During Monday night’s meeting, Water Supervisor David Hall petitioned mayor council to purchase the equipment, which includes augurs and a compressor. Hall said purchasing the equipment will cost the city less than contracting the work out to an outside company.

“We’ll be able to do a whole lot more in the future,”

he said. According to City Clerk Tacie Williams, the estimated total cost of the used equipment is $45,000. Hall said the city would pay well over $100,000 for new equipment, also noting that contracting the work is expensive and not as cost effective considering future projects. Addressing funding for the equipment, Williams recommended shifting fund allocations from two water line projects planned for this year.

“We have two waterline projects in the budget that we’re not going to get to,”

she said.

“These are lines that we planned to pay cash out of pocket for material of the same dollar amount.”

When asked, Mayor John Weaver would not disclose the names of the two projects or where they were located.
