Jane King Garner : Obituary

Jane King Garner passed away Wednesday July 31, 2013 at her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born September 29, 1932 in Dothan, Alabama to the late Jesse Whitfield King and Marguerite Moody King.

Jane and her husband, Jim, were both raised in Dothan, Alabama. After several moves including Albuquerque, NM, Cleveland, OH, and Auburn, AL, they located in Marietta in 1957. There she had an active life in the community. She was a member and past president of Town and Country Jr. Woman’s Club and active in her local church. Jane was employed by the Cobb County Board of Education until she retired in 1985. At that time she and Jim moved to Jasper and she and their Son, Kirk, established Garner Ace Hardware. Jane was a member of Piedmont Mountainside Hospital auxiliary and a longtime volunteer of the Community Thrift Store also serving on the Board of Directors. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Jasper and for many years attended the Dorcas Sunday School Class and served the children in Vacation Bible School.

Jane is survived by her husband of 62 years, James R. Garner, a son, Kirk Garner and his wife, Laura Garner of Jasper, a daughter, Debra G. Spence and her husband, Bill Spence of Grove Port, OH, Brother, Whitfield King and his wife, Carolyn of Birmingham, AL, Brother-in-law and his wife, John Zack Almand and Diane, of Dallas TX, Sister-in-law, Jan Almand Perez and her husband, Barry Perez. Seven Grandchildren, Lindsey, Kristen, and Addie Garner, and Rosemary Bayliss, Michelle Hamilton, Amy Henderson, and Josh Spence, 8 Great-Grandchildren and 3 nephews also survive.

Memorial Service will be 11 AM Saturday August 3, 2013 from the First Baptist Church of Jasper with Dr. Jimmy Lewis officiating. The family will be receiving friends on Friday from 2 PM- 9 PM at Roper Funeral Home. The entombment of the cremains will take place on Monday at 10 AM at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. The family request in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to the Jasper First Baptist Church.
