Yesterday evening, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled to Dalton to take on the Lady Lions of Christian Heritage. After having their previous game cut short due to a power outage, Pickens looked to get back to their winning ways.
In the opening quarter, things started off slow for both teams. The offense picked up towards the middle and end of the 1st. The Lady Lions held the lead, 11-8. In the 2nd quarter, a total of 16 points were scored as both teams generated 8 points. Christian Heritage held a slight lead at the half, 19-16.
The 3rd quarter saw the Nettes’ make a bit of a run, taking the lead during the quarter. Pickens outscored the Lady Lions in the frame 9-7, but it was Christian Heritage who clinged to a 26-25 lead going to the 4th. While the Nettes’ had their chances in the 4th, the Lady Lions held on using a 13-10 quarter run to come away with a 39-35 victory.
Leading the way for the Nettes’ were:
Autumn Young: 14 points, 3 rebounds, & 3 steals
Mackenzie Hampton: 9 points, 1 assist, & 6 rebounds
Shelby Cook: 9 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal
Ashley Nelson added 2 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, & 2 steals, Torie Williams ended with 2 points, 2 assists, & 1 rebound, & Kaitlin Redman chipped in an assist and 4 rebounds.
The Nettes’ will be back in action as they will travel to Northwest Whitfield to take on the Lady Bruins in a big 7-AAAA match up. Tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.
