Dragons Fall On The Road To Lions

Last night, the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team traveled up to Dalton to take on the Christian Heritage Lions in a non region ball game. After not being able to play their last game due to a power outage, Pickens looked to end a mini losing streak and get a win heading into region play next week.

 

In the 1st quarter, both teams played fairly even for the most part. The Lions were able to come away with a 14-10 lead going to the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd, the Dragons had several chances to cut the Christian Heritage lead down, but were unable to. The Lions used a 22-12 quarter run to take a 36-22 advantage into the break.

 

In the 3rd quarter, the Pickens offense started putting together scores and the defense made some key stops to get back into the game. The Dragons used a 15-11 quarter run to cut the Christian Heritage lead down to 47-37 going to the 4th. In the 4th and final quarter, the Lions lead ballooned out to 17. Showing no quit, Pickens cut it down to 8 towards the end of the game. Christian Heritage hit some free throws to get the win, 65-52.

 

Leading the way for the Dragons were:

Trent Rizoti: 20 points, 1 assist, & 9 rebounds

Holden Roop: 15 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound, & 1 steal

Avery Luke: 6 points, & 1 assist

Sam Davis: 4 points, 2 rebounds, & 2 steals

Blake Gorth added 2 points, 4 rebounds, & 5 blocks, Joseph Gossett had 2 points & 3 rebounds, & Walker Lawrence chipped in 2 points, 1 rebound, & 1 steal.

 

The Dragons will now get ready for a big region game on the road as they take on the Bruins of Northwest Whitfield this coming Tuesday. Tip off scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
