Despite Furious 2nd Half Comeback, Dragons Fall To Southeast Whitfield

It was Friday Night basketball last night as the Dragons began their 2018 portion of the schedule by hosting the Southeast Whitfield Raiders in a region match up. Coming into the game, both teams were in a similar situation as far as region standings go, & a win would be a big step for either team.

In the 1st, it was the Raiders jumping out to a quick lead. Pickens was able to corral it a bit before the end of the frame, but Southeast Whitfield held a 16-9 lead going to the 2nd. The 2nd quarter, was back and forth with both teams as the offense was working both ways. Using a 20-16 quarter run, the Raiders held a 36-25 lead going to the break.

In the 3rd, it looked like Southeast Whitfield was poised to break things open, going up by as much as 17 in the quarter. The Dragons however, had a lot of fight left in them as they cut that 17-point deficit to 8 after outscoring the Raiders 17-14 in the frame. Southeast Whitfield held a 50-42 lead going to the 4th. In the 4th, Pickens would continue to trim the Raider lead, getting as close as only being down 2. Despite the comeback, & outscoring the Raiders in the 2nd half 27-22, Southeast Whitfield was able to hit free throws late, to seal the win, 58-52.

Leading the way for the Dragons were:

Zach Goss: 18 points, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, & 2 blocks

Seth Bishop: 16 points, & 2 rebounds

Keinyuan Hooks: 7 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds, & 2 steals

Joseph Gossett: 6 points, 2 assists, 1 rebound, & 1 steal

Chase Simmons: 3 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Tucker Lowe: 2 points, & 1 assist

Pickens, will have to put that tough loss last night aside as they will be right back on the court this afternoon as they host the 13-2 Sonoraville Phoenix in non region action. Tip off scheduled for 4:30 pm.
