Featured Stories, News

Below is a statement from Lt. Kris Stancil of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office concerning the large amount of rain that has hit the area and has left some locations with a significant amount of damage in the last twelve hours:Due to the overnight rain, we have several incidents of flooding that have occurred.

Hwy 136 East (Burnt Mountain Rd) has a bridge that is impassible due to dangerous water levels. On the same road near the Scenic Overpass, a mud slide has washed over the roadway.

At least one home in that area has had significant flooding and there are multiple traffic accidents related to the weather that are being worked at this time.

We are asking that people avoid this area if at all possible and will provide additional information once we can fully assess the areas affected.
