The Pickens High School Dragonettes softball team hosted the Southeast Whitfield Lady Raiders at Nettes Stadium, in what was the final regular season region game for the Nettes. The Nettes fell, 2-1.Pickens was scoreless as going into the bottom of the second but the Nettes threatend. A runner rounded third and touched home as Pickens dropped a hit in shallow right. The umpire determined the run did not count however, as the runner at first was thrown out before the apparent score.

The Lady Raiders got on the board first in the top of fourth after a solo shot by the pitcher. In the bottom of the inning, the Nettes loaded the bases but could not tie or take the lead as the game headed to the fifth.

In the bottom half of the fifth, the Nettes finally got on the board as Paula Pickett got on first after a seeing eye single. Brooke Wilson hit a double off the wall in right field. Starting pitcher Kayla Howard came up looking to either tie it or give her team the lead.

Howard would beat out an infield single as Pickett scored to tie the ball game. That’s all the Nettes got in the fifth.

The Lady Raiders regained the lead in the top of the sixth 2-1, and that is how this one ended up. The Nettes will end their regular season at Nettes Stadium in a non-region game against the West Hall Lady Spartans.

This will be Senior Night as PHS honors the seniors for their hard work and dedication to the Softball team. The Nettes will then head to Dalton, GA next week for the 7AAAA Region Tournament Oct. 6-11th. Times for games are TBA.
