Yesterday, the PHS Dragons football team held their Black/Green Spring Game. The game took place at the old high school now known as Jasper Middle School. The two teams met at mid field for the coin toss led by honorary captains Luther Cheek of PHS for the Green team and Carter McEntire of HCES for the Black team and the Sheriff and Fire departments. In the first quarter, the defense for both teams showed their strengths as we ended the opening quarter the same way we began tied at zero. In the second quarter, it was the offenses turn to come alive in what turned into an anything you can do i can do better quarter.

Playing eight minute quarters with a predominantly running clock, the Green team drew first blood by scoring first and getting on the board 7-0 with 3:23 left in the first half. However, that lead would not last long as just 16 seconds later the Black team got on the board and tied things up at 7 a piece with 3:07 to go before the half. 15 seconds later Jacob Brumby connected with Zack Hermann on a long bomb to reclaim the lead 13-7 with 2:52 left in the first half.

Just before the half ended, the Black team called on it’s honorary captain Carter McEntire. Carter was able to weave through the defense and find the end zone for the score helping his team take the lead 14-13 at the half. The Black team would again find pay dirt as they increased their lead to 21-13 with 2:50 to go in the third.

As the third quarter wound down, Luther Cheek knew he had to help the Green team get back into the game. Luther blasted through the line and got the score his team needed, cutting the lead to 21-19 going to the fourth. With 2:32 to go in the game, the Green team took the lead back 25-21.

Nearly a minute later, the Black team took control after a short touchdown run to lead it 28-25 with 1:35 to go in the game. The Green team would not go quietly as it came down to a last second field goal. The Black team would be able to hold on and get the win, 28-25.

During halftime, the first ever Dragons Ring of Honor inductees were recognized. The 19 inductees include: Jimmy Weaver, William Poole, Mike Mosley, Rick Little, Charlie Chastain, Chris Hooks, Alonzo Hampton, Jack Dunn, Fred Anderson, Don Howell, Scott Finch, Marty Bridges, Sam Propes, Joel Stephens, Tanner Brumby, Shannon Brooks, Steve Sewell, Don Enis, and Sam Wigington.
