Community November 29, 2010Nurse Manager, Sandy Singleton encourages all citizens to visit the Pickens County
Health Department.
Mrs. Singleton began as the nurse manager since August 2009 after working in Gilmer
County for 15 years.Singleton holds her bachelor’s degree in nursing from North Georgia College and State
University. She began her career immediately after graduating from college as a public
health specialist, then as the women’s health coordinator for the entire district. She now
leads a staff of seven employees to serve the health needs of Pickens County’s over
30,000 citizens.
The department operates on a siding scale payment structure to ensure that no citizen
will be turned down for care, however, the services they provide—family planning, STD
services, child health checks, immunizations for all ages, the BCCP (Breast and Cervical
Cancer Prevention) program, tuberculosis screenings and follow-ups, the WIC program,
are broad and can benefit all citizens.
The BCCP program helps women qualify for free mammograms and also identify
abnormal Pap smear screening tests.
The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program is a federally funded program where
income eligible people who are pregnant can receive vouchers for formula, diapers, and
specific foods. Children on the program receive funds until age five.
