Dragonettes Beat “Bucs” By One

The Pickens County Dragonettes basketball team hosted the Lady Buccaneers of Allatoona, and finagled a one point, 43-42, victory that featured more nail biting suspense than a Jigsaw trap.The Lady Buccaneers began the game with a 10-0 run and held the home team Dragons to one point throughout the first four minutes of the first quarter. The Dragons stormed back, on the strength of back to back threes by Jazmine Goss. Goss’s baskets started what turned into a 9-2 run by Pickens. The quarter ended with the Dragons down 14-10.

The second quarter began with Allatoona going on a 6-2 run to garner a 20-12 lead. The Lady Buc’s opened the quarter with a press that frustrated the Dragonettes early. However, another set of back to back threes, this time from Megan Womack, completed a 10-2 run which tied the game at 22 a piece. The half ended tied 22-22.

The Dragonettes got their first lead of the game in the third quarter, thanks to a two point field goal from Jamie Waterman. The Buc’s tied the game at 29-29, however, the Dragonettes lead by three, 35-32, going into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter went back and forth as the teams traded leads like baseball cards in a tree house. The home team was down 42-41 after a steal and break away lay up by Allatoona’s Alexis Ezell. As time was becoming shorter than Verne Troyer, Jazmine Goss went coast to coast and scored the game winning bucket with 10.3 seconds left. ‘Fandemonium’ ensued as the crowd let out a deafening roar. The Dragonettes defense held up securing the win for the home team.
