Lohman Places for Pickens

After a long winter, the Dragons Wrestling season has come to an end. The team’s final weekend was spent at the 2011 AAA Tradtional State Tournament. Pickens was able to qualify three wrestlers for this tournament, placing one, Aaron Lohman (5th). Chase McCowan in the 189 pound weight class lost his first match against Derwin Butler of Burke County by pin before dropping down to the consolations brackets. There, he also lost to Alex Melnick of Ridgewood by pin, knocking him out of the tournament.

Trey Hampton wrestled a for a hard fault 4-3 victory over heavyweight Jaleel Brown, of Rutland. He then took on Akita Parks, of Grovetown, losing 3-1. Hampton defeated his next opponent, Quiton Jones, of Crisp County, 3-2 before taking on Daniel Martinez, of Johnson-Gainsville, losing 5-2. This loss knocked Hampton out of the tournament, making it unable for him to place this year.

Aaron Lohman had a wonderful showing in the 215 pound weight class. He was able to record two pins against Mark Morton of Howard, and Lincoln Temple of East Side, before facing Bryson Brindle, of Allatoona, in the semi finals. Brindle pinned Lohman shortly into the first period.

Lohman dropped down to the consolation brackets. Joseph Ray, of Druid Hills, then pinned Lohman, and the Dragon dropped down to wrestle for fifth and sixth. His opponent, James Longino, of Gilmer forfeited his match, allowing Lohman to place fifth place in the state tournament
