Henderson’s Head Helps Dragons Stay Ahead

The Pickens High School Dragons varsity soccer home owners were against the Fannin High Rebels. The teams went 1-1 on the day with the boys coming away victorious after Titus Henderson terrific day. He scored two goals, both of headers, to give the boys a 2-0 shutout victory. The Lady Dragons did not fare as well, falling 1-0 to the visitors from the north.The boys began the action on a windy chilly day. The game a rowdy Rebel army that attacked the goal repeatedly like a blue army full of “Smurfs” tired of Gargamel’s tomfoolery. It was a physical game as both teams constantly jockeyed for position. Matt Silva picked up a yellow card in early in the game, much to the chagrin and ire of the home crowd.

The Rebels seemed to be winning the possession battle, constantly applying pressure to the Dragons’ defense. The game was opened up with Henderson’s heads up play. He scored off a corner kick assist with 12:52 left in the first half. The Dragons went into the half up 1-0.

The second half saw turning of the tide of sorts as the dragons became the aggressor. The Dragons continued to hammer away at the Fannin goal, despite a plethora of blocks from Fannin’s keeper.

Henderson scored his second goal of the day with 16:20 left in the game. After the game Henderson said about scoring the first two goals of the Dragons season,

“It felt great.”

Henderson, who has been playing soccer since at least four years of age, has set a personal goal of 15 goals for the year, because,

“It’s a good number.”

Henderson described the games between Fannin and Pickens as,

“Always competitive”

The Lady Dragons’ home opener resulted in a loss due to relentless pressure from the visiting Lady Rebels. They were unable to match Fannin’s first half goal despite numerous shots on goal.
