Hawks Fans Beware of Weekend Traffic

On Sunday, March 20, the Atlanta Hawks host the Detroit Pistons at 2 p.m. at Philips Arena. The Georgia Marathon will be taking place in the downtown area on Sunday morning and early afternoon, and related street closings are planned. Additionally, the Georgia Department of Transportation is scheduled to continue an ongoing resurfacing project on the Northbound and Southbound lanes of I-75. Fans are strongly encouraged to use MARTA, and if driving, allow additional time to arrive. The primary street closings related to the marathon are as follows:

* Centennial Olympic Park Dr. between Baker and International Blvd. will be closed until 11:45 a.m. Until then, traffic will be re-routed to Williams St., to International Blvd., and back to Centennial Olympic Park Dr.

* Marietta St. will be closed from Means St. to Centennial Olympic Park Dr. Inbound traffic will be allowed from Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd. to Centennial Olympic Park Dr. starting at 12:30 p.m.

* The following routes will be closed until 2 p.m.: Baker and Luckie St. to Marietta St., and northbound traffic on Marietta St. from Centennial Olympic Park Dr. trying to reach Park Ave. West.

The Hawks also recommend that fans arrive early for Friday night’s game (March 18) vs. the Miami Heat (7:30 p.m. tipoff). The Philips Arena doors will open at 6 p.m. to ease the expected traffic and fan congestion in the area.
