Pickens High School junior varsity basketball team scrimmaged against the Creekview Grizzlies junior varsity team on their home floor. The j.v. Dragons were drug by the visiting Grizzlies 66-14.The Dragons’ debacle began with a 6-0 run by the Grizzlies, assisted by two Pickens turnovers within the first three possessions. The Dragons failed to crash the boards time and time again leading to coach Steinhauer to yell out, “Where’s my rebounders?”

The Grizzlies stifling zone defense packed the paint tighter than constipated gnat booty, making dribble penetration almost impossible for the home team. Throughout the game the Dragons continued to struggle with turnovers and poor rebounding.

The first Dragons points, courtesy of a couple of free throws, did not come until the first quarter was more than halfway completed. The Grizzlies, conversely, used a plethora of Pickens turnovers combined with a bevy of offensive rebounds and second chance points to amass a ten point 15-5 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Grizzlies’ onslaught continued throughout the half, as they continued to pound Pickens on both the offensive and defensive glass amassing second chance and fast break points at a furious rate. Conversely, the Dragons could not buy baskets with gold doubloons. Pickens continued to miss lay up after lay up throughout the contest, falling behind 34-11 at the half.

The second half was a repeat of the first with the Dragons being held scoreless throughout the entire third quarter. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, continued to score at will with the help of the Dragons amassing turnovers like grandma’s kitchen on night before the church cookout.

With the score being 56-11 at the end of the third, the final quarter was completed under a shortened continuously running clock. The Dragons managed to score only three total points in the second half.
