The Pickens Recreation Department, headed by Melinda Goss, decided to host the event after talking with several groups of parents about how to promote soccer in the county. Goss, explained that soccer has played second fiddle to football and basketball in the county, so “SoccerFest” was thought to be a creative way to create a buzz about the sport.
