Get Ready: New School Year, New Hours

News

Several things will be a little different this year as students head back to class in Pickens County. The new term begins Wednesday, August 3rd with different start and stop time for classes. It’s all part of a massive overhaul of the district’s transportation system.

Pickens County public schools will now operate under the following schedule:

Elementary Schools start at 7:45 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
Middle Schools start at 8:10 a.m. and end at 3:25 p.m.
High School starts at 8:10 a.m. and ends at 3:10 p.m.

The new schedule will allow the district to cut some bus routes and combine others. The staggered start and end times will also enable drivers to run more than one route. School board officials expect the move to save about $120,000 this year without eliminating any jobs.
