Mr. Patrick John “PAT” Green, age 66, of Big Canoe, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, Georgia, following a sudden illness.

Pat was born July 28, 1944 in London, England to the late Thomas William Green and Constance Grace Barritt Green. He came to the US by himself at age 16 where he began his career in the mail room at Johnson & Higgins in New York. Pat attended the Municipal College of London, England and the College of Insurance of New York. In the late 70’s he joined Marsh & McLennan, Inc. in Atlanta and became President of Rollins, Burdick & Hunter of Georgia, Inc (AON). In 1988 Pat became one of eight principals of regional broker Duncan Peek, Inc., which sold to Sedgwick in December of 1992. In 1999, Sedgwick merged with MARSH USA, Inc.

Pat served as Client Executive to numerous major clients of Marsh Atlanta and had served in various Leadership roles. Pat was an outstanding insurance broker and developed strong and lasting relationships with clients, colleagues and business partners. Pat was patient, slow to anger and his wit and irreverent style could warm any relationship. His pragmatic approach consistently ensured that his clients and business partners were pleased with his and his team’s work. He never backed down from what he thought was right.

More than anything, Pat was known to make the insurance business fun. He maintained a boyish sense of mischief, had a great sense of humor and an unmatched ability to tell jokes. Even as he struggled and grew fatigued with his recent illness, Pat was Pat; just great fun to be around.

Survivors include, HIS WIFE, Patrice Green, of Big Canoe; DAUGHTER, Rachel Green, of Big Canoe; SONS, Jason Green, of Norcross, Ga.; Michael Green, of Big Canoe; SISTERS, Jackie Salvato, of New York; and Pam Hemmings, of England; BROTHERS, Ben Green, of England; and Dan Green, of Spain; MOTHER-IN-LAW, Margie Hunter, of Big Canoe; SISTER-IN-LAW, Robin Hunter, of Big Canoe. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive.

At his request, Mr. Green was cremated and a Memorial Service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the University Yacht Club Chapel in Flowery Branch, Georgia, the Rev. Bruce Shortell will officiate.
