Pickens Sheriff’s Department Pays Tribute to 9/11
Community, Featured Stories September 13, 2011 , by Staff WriterLast Friday Pickens County policeman and fireman gathered to pay tribute to the heroes and victims of the attacks of 9/11.Citizens circled around the same flag that was flown on the day of the attacks. The flag flew for exactly 365 days afterwards at the Pickens County Adult Detention Center.
Rev. Von Hinton led the group in prayer to remember those who died in the Twin Towers. The frayed flag was brought down and replaced with a new flag.
Chief Deputy Joe McDonald spoke of how the flags together symbolize the past, present and future and the resilience of America in the midst of adversity.
Scott King ended the ceremony with the customary playing of Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.
