Jasper Celebrates Constitution Day

Featured Stories, Festivals

This past Saturday, September 17th was the anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. In commemoration of the event, the City of Jasper celebrated the anniversary with history, fun and food. The celebration drew crowds who heard inspirational speeches and patriotic music. Citizens dressed up as historical characters as a way to teach and talk about the exceptionalism of our nation. Citizen Jean Garner dressed up as Betsy Ross and discussed the stitching of our early flag and talked about the days of the Revolution.

Other presentations included talks by citizen Tony Orta, who immigrated to the United States from Cuba when he was a teenager. Orta spoke of the virtues of this country, but warned that if she remains on her current path, we may lose the things that have made this country great. Rep. Rick Jasperse (R-GA-12) and Appalachian Circuit District Attorney Joe Hendricks also spoke to the crowds, commenting on the signing of the Constitution. Watch the slide show of the event to see the celebration.
