Dragons on Fire: Scalp Indians of Murray

The Pickens High School Dragons baseball team traveled to Murray County High School to take on the Indians. Pickens picked up the win with a 15-1 Dragon demolishing of the Indians not seen since before the pilgrims landed.Pickens pitcher, Dylan Childers, struck out five of the first six batters he faced, with none reaching the base until the bottom of the third. The Dragons led 3-0 by that time.

Tanner Brumby’s RBI single scored Jesse Decker in the first inning. The top of the second saw two more RBI’s one by Childers and one from Decker, to give the Dragons a 3-0 lead going into third inning.

Jake Dean’s RBI sacrifice fly scored Joe Powell, to make the score 4-0. Powell moved into scoring position after a walk, by stealing second and third on errant pitches, a recurring theme for the Dragons throughout the game.

After Childers’ single to left opened the top of the fourth, the Indians brought a new chief to the mound; however, after Brumby walked to load the bases, Powell’s two run single put the Dragons up by a half dozen.

The led 10-0 before Murray avoided the shut out, scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth. Pickens picked up five more runs in the top of the sixth, and the game was called at the top of the seventh.

The Dragons next face Cedartown, at Cedartown, Friday March 9th at 5:55pm.
