Pickens Has First Annual Relay For Life Parade

Community, Featured Stories

Citizens gathered around the streets of Main Street on Saturday, May 6th to watch the 1st Annual Pickens County Relay For Life parade.
The parade’s theme was “Around the World: Passport to Hope,” and was a pre-celebration leading up to The American Cancer Society’s Pickens County Relay For Life being held on Saturday, May 12th at 2:00 p.m. at Lee Newton Memorial Park.

Local cancer survivors, organizations, and businesses around the community participated in the event to help raise awareness of The American Cancer Society’s “fight against cancer”. The parade’s Grand Marshall was Hans Rueffert, a fellow local cancer survivor and owner of the Woodbridge Inn.

According to www.relayforlife.org, “1 in 3 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and there is nothing more devastating as dealing with cancer. The money raised through Relay funds cancer research, early detection, education programs, and patient services.”
