The citizens of Pickens County celebrated the 236th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in style on Wednesday, as they were treated to a big parade down Jasper’s Main Street. The parade, which lasted about thirty-five minutes, featured many of the county’s most recognizable residents, including Jasper mayor Johnny Weaver and Pickens County sheriff Donnie Craig. Also scattered throughout the parade were many of the candidates running for various offices at the end of the month, as each made the most out of one of the county’s biggest celebrations and participated. The parade’s theme of “United We Stand” was echoed time and time again as the floats and vehicles went by, reminding all in attendance that we are truly blessed to live in the greatest country in the world.
