Public Hearings for Property Tax Increase, This Week and Next Week

The county will hold three public hearings regarding a new property tax increase. Two will be held this week and one next week.
The dates are as follows:
Thursday August 23rd at 6:00 P.M. following the regular meeting at 4:00 P.M.
Friday August 24th at 9:00 A.M.
Friday August 31st at 9:30 A.M.
More information below.According to the Pickens County website,
This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 6.90 mills, an increase of
.581 mills above the roll-back millage rate. Without this tentative tax increase,
the millage rate will be no more than 6.319 mills. The proposed tax increase for
a home with a fair market value of $100,000 is approximately $22.44 and the
proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of
$300,000 is approximately $76.80.
