Mr. Richard Pieper, age 84 of Jasper, passed away September 23, 2012 at the residence of his niece, Pam Kondos and her husband, Kirk.

Mr. Pieper was born on February 23, 1928 in Chicago, IL to the late Hugo and Ella Blum Pieper. Survivors include his only sister, Ruth Mueller Pieper of Califon, NJ, 11 nieces and nephews and their children. He was preceded in death by brothers, Howard, Art, Edmund and Hugo, Jr.

After serving 2 years in the U.S. Army, Rich worked as a draftsman at Griffin Wheel in Chicago until his retirement. After he retired he enjoyed his favorite hobbies of photography, travel and playing the stock market. Until last year he had resided in Erwin, TN for 30 years. In 2011 he moved to be near his niece and her husband. They are especially grateful for the care he received for the last 6 months from Affinis Hospice of Adairsville, GA.

A graveside ceremony, to be scheduled at a later date, will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA with the military honors performed by the Pickens County DAV Chapter #47 Honor Guard.
