Legal Notice

The Mayor and Council will be holding a work session starting at 6 pm and the council meeting will start at 7 pm on Monday 12/3/12.

City of Nelson Work Session December 3, 2012

1. Street Light at Winchester Oaks – (Mayor)
2. Dog’s running loose within the City – (Mayor)
3. Fee Schedule – Section 2.3 Occupational Taxes and Regulatory Fees – (Jarrett)
4. Discuss what to do at Reavis Mountain Road and Pickens Street – (Jarrett)
5. Social media policy adoption:
Any public official posting ideas/concerns on social media (i.e. face books, twitter, MySpace, etc.) about city business is subject to the open records laws of the state of Georgia. Therefore, any such posts must be turned over to the city to be filed for compliance with the sunshine laws of the state of Georgia. Also any person responding to any public comment on a social media outlet must know (by disclaimer) that their comments in response to any publication is subject to the same open records law. 6. Lawyer contact policy:
Due to costly legal fees, the city of Nelson must enact a contact policy for our city Attorney. Rules and guidelines must be in place to keep officials of the city from contacting our attorney at will, and charging the city un-needed fees. (Cronic)
7. Employee handbook changes:
Personnel committee recommends changes in the employee handbooks that reflects a city manager, as well as the policies enacted by the city council throughout the 2012 year. (Cronic)
8. Employee job descriptions:
Newly defined job descriptions for our maintenance department, police department, and city manager to be approved by the city council. (Cronic)
9. Microphone System:
Purchase a microphone system in the council chambers. (Portillo)
10. Fix Equipment in Maintenance Shop:
Fix broken equipment in Maintenance Shop or Repair what we have (Portillo & Jarrett)
11. Surplus Assets:
Put un-needed items from the maintenance shop out for bid as is. (Portillo)
12. Purchase New Maintenance Equipment:
If equipment is not fixed, do we purchase new equipment (Portillo & Jarrett)

Important dates to remember:
December 1 – Property taxes will be mailed
December 3 – Council Meeting 7pm (work session 6pm)
December 24-28 – City hall closed due to vacation
The City hall will be closed every Friday until the first of the year due to vacation days.
