Pickens Officials Take Oath!

Featured Stories, News

During an emotional ceremony Wednesday night, December 19th, Pickens County’s newly elected officials were sworn in. The event took place in a packed jury room in Annex West on West Church Street in Jasper. Friends and family filled the benches, snapped pictures and showed their support for the newly elected officials.

With the joy of promise, though, came the sorrow of parting, as long-time co-workers and community members said farewell to Probate Judge Rodney Gibson. Gibson is stepping down from his long career and will be replaced by David Lindsey come January.

The ceremony was also historical, as Robert Jones, Becky Denney, and Jerry Barnes will serve in a new form of government for Pickens County in a three-post commission board. Previously, the county government was guided by a sole commissioner structure. Come January, though, the county will operate under a three-person board.

During the ceremony, Judge Weaver noted that the event was historic for another reason: Commissioner Elect Becky Denny will be the first female commissioner of Pickens County. Following the ceremony new officials, friends and family lingered to have photographs taken.
