Runners and families will gather on Saturday May 11th, at Pickens County Community Center, to raise money to prevent child abuse. Same day registration will begin at 7 AM at the center, located at 1329 Camp Road in Jasper.The 5k, flat course, race will begin at 8 AM and the Tot Trot Run/Walk around the community center will start at 9 AM. Entry fees are $25 by May 3rd, $30 May 4th to race day. Tot Trot fee is $15 for children under 12, $25 for those over 12. Fees include race bib, professional timing and T-shirt. T-shirt is guaranteed only if registered before May 4th.

Footsteps for Families is a program designed and administered by Prevent Child Abuse Pickens (PCAP) which greets every expectant parent and provides them guidance, parenting education, referrals and family support throughout pregnancy. The goal of PCAP is simple – to stop child abuse and neglect before it starts. Preparing parents for their new life of caring for a newborn, with all its challenges goes a long way toward preventing serious problems from developing. A follow up program by PCAP, Parents as Teachers, stays with the family, until the child enters kindergarten, coaching them in the preparing their child for school and beyond. Currently there are 20+ families participating in this program. Unfortunately, due to a lack of funding, there is a waiting list of 52 more families needing support.
