A pedestrian was struck midday Friday at Highway 515 South and Collins Road in Jasper. The victim, 52-year-old Jeffery Lawson of Jasper, is still in Kennestone Hospital in Marietta as of today. His condition is unknown.Although the Jasper Police Department was first on the scene, the Georgia State Patrol worked the accident.

The accident report states that a 24-year-old driver from Galesburg, IL, was traveling southbound on Georgia 515. Lawson walked from the west side of the road to the east, crossing one lane of traffic before inexplicably stepping into the inside lane of travel in front of her.

The victim hit the front of the Chevrolet Malibu, then the windshield. The driver was able to stop 83 feet from the accident site and by the drawn analysis, the victim came to rest a short distance in front of the car.

All witness statements, the driver’s statement and debris in the roadway corroborate the incident, that he stepped out in front of her and she subsequently struck him with the vehicle with no other extenuating circumstances.

The GSP did issue a citation to Lawson for failure of pedestrian to yield if not in crosswalk. FYN attempted to obtain further information regarding his condition but HIPAA laws dictate that non-family members are not allowed any information per Kennestone staff.
