Area Middle Schools Compete in Berry Math Contest

ROME, Ga. – Pickens County Middle School and Armuchee Middle School took home first place wins at the recent Berry College Mathematics Contest for sixth, seventh and eighth graders.
In the sixth grade competition Pickens County Middle took home first place, followed by Jasper Middle school in second and Gilmer Middle School in third. For individual winners, Colby James of Pickens County Middle took first place, followed by Lauren Pitkins of Pickens County Middle in second place and Kai Lucas of LaFayette Middle School in third place.

In the seventh and eighth grade competition Armuchee Middle took home first place followed by Pickens County Middle in second, and Tattnall Square Academy in third place. Individual winners were Dalton Ford, of Tattnall Square Academy, in first place and Chase Garland of Pickens County Middle School and Kip Reynolds of Heritage Middle School who both tied for second place. Ryan Harris of Heritage Middle School earned third place.

Berry hosts the annual math competitions to promote and encourage mathematical excellence among students. Berry students and faculty in the math department work the event.

Participating schools included: Armuchee Middle (Floyd County), Berry College Elementary & Middle School, Centre Middle School (Cherokee County), Dade Middle School (Dade County), First Presbyterian Day School (Macon, Ga.,) Gilmer Middle School (Gilmer County), Heritage Middle School (Catoosa County), Jasper Middle School (Pickens County), LaFayette Middle School (Walker County), Pickens County Middle School (Pickens County), Rome High School (Floyd County), Saddle Ridge Elementary & Middle School (Walker County), Sonoraville Middle School (Gordon County), St. Mary’s (Floyd County), Tattnall Square Academy (Macon, Ga.), Trion Middle School (Chattooga County), and Unity Christian School (Floyd County).
