PHS 2014 Hall of Fame Class Ceremony

The Pickens High School Hall of Fame has inducted its second class, with six new members making up the class of 2014, three teams and three individuals. The 1950, 1951, and 1954, girls’ basketball teams from Pickens County High School, were the three teams. Carlos Hampton (95’), Alison Thomason (Loggins) (00’), and Jeremiah Boswell (01’), were the individual inductees. All members of the 2014 class were associated with Pickens County basketball.

The 1950 PCHS girls’ basketball team consisted of 13 members: Sybil Anderson; Elise Bryant; Geraldine Barnes; Ruth Bargess; Jean Burton; Norma Jean Cagle; Anne Floyd; Roxie Jones; Frankie McJunkins; Doris Mosley; Virginal Moore; Jimmie McJunkins; and Geneva Long. The team was coached by PHS inaugural H.O.F. inductee, D.B. Carroll, as were the 1951 and 1954 teams.
The 1950 PCHS girls’ basketball team won the Class-B State Championship, defeating Glenville 40-30 in the championship game, and also began a 187 game regular season win streak.

The 1951 team’s members were: Jean Burton; Shirley Garland; Roxie Jones; Frankie McJunkins; Jimmie McJunkins; Betty Sue Mills; Doris Mosley; Sybil Westbrook; Virginia Moore; Carolyn Prather; Peggy Tayler; and Judy Mosley.
The 51’ team also won the Class B State Championship, defeating Adrian 46-37 in the Championship game, as well as took part in the 187 regular season games win streak.

The 54’ team’s members were: Sue Anderson; Kathryn Floyd; Janet Johnson; Marie Kirk; Shirley Long; Mary Parker; Barbara Prather; Carolyn Prather; Ola Bell Stancil; Peggy Taylor; Frances Wigington; Janet Trippe; and Marilyn Williams.
The’ team won the Class B State Championship as well, destroying Wrightsville 73-47 in the championship game, as well as took part in the 187 regular season games win streak.
The three individuals inducted combined for 6,880 points and nine school records.

Carlos Hampton was named All-State following the 93-94 basketball season, and Honorable Mention All-State following the 92-93 and 94-95 seasons. Hampton holds seven PHS records: All Time Points Leader (2582); Points in a Season (1001); Points in a Game (62); Season Scoring Average (38.5 PPG); Three Pointers in a Game (12); and Three Pointers in a Season (132).

Alison Thomason (Loggins) was named All-State following the 99-00 season, and named to the 2000 Southern Hoops All-Star Team. She is the Dragonettes All Time Points Leader (2343), and she led the “Nettes” to four straight State Tournament appearances with Final Fours in 98’ and 00’.

Jeremiah Boswell was named All-State following the 99-00 and 00-01 seasons as well as Honorable Mention All-State following the 98-99 season. He was named Region Player of the Year three straight times from 99-01. He is second on PHS’s All Time Scoring List (1958) and holds the record for Highest Season Free Throw Percentage with 84%.
Boswell led PHS to a Region Championship in 2000 and three straight State Tournament Appearances with an Elite Eight appearance in 2000.
