Tanner Brumby is Bound to be a Mercer Bear

Pickens High School senior quarterback Tanner Brumby signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday with Mercer University, guaranteeing that he will be a Mercer Bear come the fall of 2014.Brumby signed his letter of intent in the Pickens High School auditorium with several people on hand, including parents Mike and Carolyn, brother Jacob, head football coach Chris Parker, assistant coach Sam Wigington, athletic director and trainer Kyle Rasco, and principal Eddie McDonald. Tanner leaves Pickens High School with practically all of the school’s passing records, including yards in a game, season, and a career.

Tanner is part of a special recruiting class at Mercer, as it is the school’s first full-scholarship class in the revitalization of a program that had not fielded a football team since 1941. The Bears had a successful debut in 2013, posting a 10-2 record as members of the Pioneer League. Mercer is set to step up to the Southern Conference of the FCS level beginning this fall.
