Dorothy Elizabeth “Betty” Rau, age 96 of Jasper, Georgia passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at the Grandview Healthcare Center in Jasper, following a period of declining health.
Born July 25, 1917 in Detroit, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Cecil MacClaren and Maude Edith Holgate MacClaren. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Belden Rau, sisters, Reba Baden and Trudi Gilmour, brothers, Robert MacClaren and Herbert MacClaren. Mrs. Rau was a homemaker and was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church.
Survivors include, DAUGHTERS, Patricia Rau Steck and husband, James Steck of Brookville, Ohio; Barbara Rau Brewster and husband, Allen Brewster of Trophy Club, Texas; SON, Charles Rau and his wife, Linda Rau of Jasper, Ga.; 9 GRANDCHILDREN, 17 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 7 GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN; SISTER, Jean Hovarter of Michigan; Numerous Nieces and Nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Roper Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Chip Wilson will officiate, with the interment to follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donation be made to the Jasper United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 85 W. Church St., Jasper, Georgia 30143.
