Mark David Stout : Obituary

Obituaries

Mark David Stout, age 52, of Jasper, GA, formerly of Hightstown, NJ and Columbus, GA, passed away suddenly on May 5, 2014.
Born April 19, 1962 in Trenton, NJ, Mark grew up in Hightstown, NJ and Columbus, GA. He was the son of the late Dr. Daniel Anthony Stout and Betty Sue Brown Stout.

A life-long sports enthusiast, Mark played football and wrestled at Hardaway High School in Columbus, GA and played football at University of West Georgia, where he graduated with a degree in Sports and Recreation.

Mark was a man in motion. In later years Mark took his love of fitness and sports in another direction. Mark fulfilled a long-standing dream and conquered Mt. Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, Africa. Soon after he climbed Mt. Rainier in Washington State.

Mark was also a running enthusiast and began running marathons in the early 1990s, among them being the New York and Chicago marathons. Being the competitive athlete that he was, he then graduated to Iron Man Competitions, completing his first Iron Man Competition in 2002 and many more despite growing physical challenges.

Mark greatest love was his family and he was a devoted husband and father to daughters Lucy and Molly, ages 11 and 8, and son Sam, age 11. He was happily married to Tonia Payne for 16 years and was unfailingly involved in his children’s lives. He also took an active role in coaching his son, Sam, in football and wrestling.

“Stout”, as friends fondly called him, was famous for his dry, highly irreverent, sense of humor. Mark had a knack of making people laugh while maintaining a poker face himself. A talk-radio junkie, Mark was widely informed on current events, was able to see the absurdities of life and brought his unique sense of humor to almost all situations.

Mark is survived by his wife and three children; Mother Betty Sue Brown Stout of Woodstock, GA; Father and Mother-in-law Tony and Sandra Payne of Jasper, GA, Brother Dan Stout and sister-in-law Kayna Stout of Hauula, Hawaii, Sister Carol Stout Bonza and brother-in-law Ed Bonza of Woodstock, GA; Sister Meredith Stout Mortimer and Brother-in-law Travis Mortimer of Sandia Park, NM; Brother and Sister in-law Chuck and Lisa Payne of Jasper, GA Nephews Boyd Stout, Byron Stout, Ben Stout, Tanner Hamilton, Tate Hamilton, and Noah Mortimer; Nieces Lily Mortimer, Katy Mortimer, and Julianna Payne.
