Pickens County Board of Assessors Receives State Confirmation of Fair Assessment

Featured Stories, News

Chief Appraiser Roy Dobbs shared the Revenue Statistical Report (a document which reflects the ‘fairness’ of a county’s assessment ratio) at a Thursday morning meeting of the Board of Assessors.

A series of documents (one of which can be referenced below) reveal that Pickens County has properly implemented fair and uniform levels of assessment. Local governments are overseen at the state level by both the Department of Audits and the Department of Revenue. This is to ensure that assessments are prepared so as to not over burden any one class of tax payers.

A properly implemented assessment program ensures that local citizens are not over burdened relative to other sources of revenue (such as public utilities).

The Department of Audits report can be viewed as a ‘good house keeping seal’ in the sense that it is the final say on whether a local government is fairly and uniformly assessing all sources of revenue.
