The Pickens High School Dragonettes Fast Pitch Softball team hosted the Lady Ramblers of LaFayette High School at “Nettes” Field in region 7AAAA action, taking a 6-2 home victory. After a quick top of the 1st, the Nettes would step up to the plate. A lead off double by Paula Pickett would turn into a run as starting pitcher Kayla Howard drove her in on a double of her own and after one frame, the “Nettes” had a 1-0 lead. It would remain 1-0 until the top of the 4th when the Lady Ramblers scored twice to take a 2-1 lead. Nettes threatened in the bottom of the inning but runners on 1st and 2nd would be left stranded as the game headed to later innings with LaFayette still up 2-1.
The defense for the “Nettes” held up a Lady Rambler at 3rd to keep the game close headed to the bottom of the 5th. The Nettes would finally take the lead back as they exploded for five runs using a combination of doubles, steals, and bunts to take a 6-2 lead.
The “Nettes” held on to take this one with a final of 6-2. Paula Pickett had two hits and a run scored, Brooke Wilson drove in a run, and Kayla Howard had two hits and two RBI and got the complete game win.
The Nettes will be in action again on Thursday, September 4th at Southeast Whitfield at 5:55, and on Saturday, September 6th against Fannin and Westminster. Games will be held at Blue Ridge City Park and are scheduled for 11 am and 1 pm
