Dragons Cannot Overcome Tough 4th Quarter Fall To Heritage

Team FYN Sports

Last Tuesday, the Dragons traveled to take on the Generals of Heritage in 7AAAA action. Pickens, who’ve had a difficult time the last several games, looked to turn things around last Tuesday. The Dragons are the only team to have beaten Heritage in region play and looked to pull off the “upset” and get the sweep. The first quarter both teams traded buckets back and forth. Heritage held the lead after one, 15-14 over the Dragons. In the second quarter, The Generals outscored Pickens 17-15, but it would be the Dragons going into the half with momentum as Travis Huffman hit a three at the buzzer to cut the Heritage lead to 32-29.

The third quarter saw a back and forth game until the Generals started to pull away late. Heritage outscored Pickens 24-19 and held a double digit lead till Holden Roop hit a shot just inside half court to end the third to cut the General lead to 56-48. In the fourth, the Dragons only managed 6 points while Heritage scored 16 to put the game away and win this on, 72-54. Pickens is now 10-11 on the season and 2-8 in region play.

Leading the way for the Dragons Tuesday night were:

Travis Huffman: 16 points, 1 assist, and 1 rebound

Shannon Brooks: 14 points, 2 assists, and 5 rebounds

Holden Roop: 9 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and a steal

Trent Rizoti: 7 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal

Pickens will now look towards their matchup with their bitter rival, the Gilmer Bobcats tomorrow night in “the cage” in Ellijay. Both teams are 2-8 in region play so on top of the rivalry aspect, this is a big game for seeding purposes for the region tournament. The Dragons have won both meetings so far this season and look to complete the sweep tomorrow evening. Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 pm.
