Yesterday, the Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled up to Tunnel Hill to take on the region leading Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield. Coming into the ball game, the Lady Bruins were tied atop the standings with the Lady Cats of Gilmer while Pickens came in tied for third with Heritage.The first quarter started off very slow for the Nettes. The Lady Bruins offense got hot and ended the first with a 17-4 lead. The second quarter saw similar struggles for the Pickens offense as Northwest Whitfield outscored them 18-7 to take a 35-11 lead into the break.
The Nettes offense outscored their entire first half output as well as the Lady Bruins in the third quarter 12-11, but still trailed 46-23 headed to the fourth. Northwest Whitfield outscored Pickens in the fourth 10-9, to lead this one throughout and pick up the win, 56-32. Pickens is now 10-13 on the season and 6-6 in region play.

Kaitlin Redman: 9 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal
Haley Kalson: 5 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals
Paula Pickett: 4 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, and a steal
Makayla Payne: 4 points, and 2 assists
Pickens will now get ready for their next game against the team they just happen to be tied for fourth with, the Lady Raiders of Southeast Whitfield. The Nettes were able to get a hard fought win against the Lady Raiders on the road a few weeks ago and look to get a big win on Friday. As extra motivation for Pickens, Friday will also be Senior Night at PHS. Tip off scheduled for 7 pm.
