Nettes Fall To Lady Bruins Play Heritage For Third

Earlier this afternoon, the Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled to Southeast Whitfield High School to take on the 2nd seeded Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield in the Semi-Finals of the 7AAAA Region Tournament. The winner punched a ticket to the Finals and a home State Playoff game in the opening round.The Nettes started the opening quarter slowly as the Lady Bruins capitalized on several turnovers. Northwest held the lead after one, 20-8. The Lady Bruins again turned defense into offense the second quarter, outscoring Pickens 15-8, to take a 35-16 lead into the break.

The Nettes came out in the third and started using a press defense and were able to cut into the Northwest lead after outscoring the Lady Bruins 17-9, trimming the lead to 44-33 going to the fourth. Northwest held on in the fourth outscoring Pickens 16-7, to get the win, 60-40.

Leading the way for the Nettes this afternoon were:

Haley Kalson: 16 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals

Ashley Nelson: 9 points, and a steal

Autumn Young: 6 points, and a steal

Kaitlin Redman: 4 points, and a rebound

Makayla Payne: 3 points, 4 assists, and a steal

Tomorrow, the Nettes will once again travel to Southeast Whitfield to take on the Heritage Lady Generals in the Girls Consolation Game for 3rd place. The winner could possibly face North Hall in the first round of State while the fourth place finisher will play Buford. Tip off is scheduled for 3 pm.
