Nettes Season Ends In The Sweet Sixteen

Yesterday, the Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the nearly four hour trip to Americus, Ga to take on the #1 seed out of 1-AAAA, the Americus-Sumter Lady Panthers. This was the first time Pickens found themselves in the sweet sixteen of the state tournament since 2001.The first quarter looked to be a feeling out process for both teams. Both offenses found success as it was the Lady Panthers leading it after one, 13-12. Americus-Sumter outscored the Nettes in the second quarter 18-10 to stretch their lead out to 31-22 as they went into the break.

The third quarter almost mirrored the first quarter as both teams traded buckets. The Lady Panthers outscored Pickens 10-8 to take a 41-30 lead going to the fourth quarter. Americus-Sumter closed out the ball game with a 17-10 fourth quarter to pick up the win, 58-40.

With the Nettes season coming to a close, we can now reflect on what a great season it was. With only three seniors on this year’s team, the Nettes were able to come together with a combination of youth and experience to finish third in 7-AAAA, and pick up a win in the state tournament. Looking ahead, things can only get better.

While the Nettes may not have a senior on the team next season, they will have a ton of experience coming back and a state tournament win already under their belt. The future is definitely bright for the PHS Dragonettes basketball team.
